Civilization leads men to their doom, not just every human-being, but also to all living forms on earth.
All the so-called enlightened, in my opinion (if at all there's a thing called 'en-lightenment' in the true sense) honestly are, trying not to live in conflict with the soceity that they find themselves in. They really have nothing to teach, because they know that whatever they have fallen in to, is something un-teachable (if such a word exists). They always prefer to be left alone. But when humans approach them, the gnani simply wants to keep them out of worry. This wish that they wish, is enough to draw forces that help the human-in-trouble to overcome his worry - for the time being. Soon, based on the nature of this man-in-trouble, another worry starts to torment him, unless he gets smart and learns by himself, how to get off from this endless delusion. One man's nature cannot be controlled by another, even if he's a Gnani.

"I am a man - an unenlightened-man" , "an enlightened man", "an intellectual", "an idiot" , " a brilliant", "a fool", "a disciplined one", "careless" are all concepts accepted by YOU.

These concepts were created for you even before your entry in to this world. You are forced to acquire these concepts already created by people around you. To be treated as a "sane" person in the society, you need to define yourself with whatever they have provided you with. There's nothing really new that can come forth from you. Whatever you consider new, is nothing but a modified form of the old. With all these concepts, you create an image of yourself. This is really the definition of the term "Creation". With this has begun all trouble. Now you know who is the "Creator" of your universe :-)

The opposite concept (still a concept, no doubt), which has gained popularity is the "Destroyer". I don't quiet agree with this as well. Whatever is created is only a concept and in order to destroy it, you'll bring-in more and more concepts which have been acquired - thinking that it'll break all the images you have built. It only strengthens and fortifies. It replaces one concept with another, never rooting them out completely.

By knowing more and more, one cannot demolish the image altogether. I see a vicious circle here , from which there is no way out. We are the way we are, because mankind is the way it is and there isn't anything we can do to change anything here. Again, this "need to change something" is got to be an artificial urge planted in to the human thinking mind. It is clearly a jungle we live in, and any efforts to mould the 7 billion+ people in to a single definition of a "Good" human being, which our so-called "civilization"/ "education" / "religion" are trying to do, will surely end in tragedy.

The best is still the age-old "law of the jungle" -- keep yourself out of conflict with the society you live in, think its thoughts, speak its language.
Do not change anything in yourself, or in society, you'll only end up disappointed.

    Presence of :
                  Hope proves hopelessness,
                  Food proves hunger,
                  Aim proves aimlessness,
Similarly, the urge to change something proves that there is something fundamental that cannot be changed at all.
Until all these artificial drives/urges are banished -- goes away from our system, there is no way out.

Once freed from them, saved from the "saviours of mankind", saved from the very idea that "we need to be saved" -- then mankind will no longer be a threat to the planet - to the nature.

Worry, urge-to-improve, suffering, will be alien to him, because happiness-joy-bliss are also equally alien. Enlightened ones will never again be bothered by anyone.
This articile should be forgotten immediately after reading it. Thinking about it only helps in building the fortress of concepts.

UG krishnamurthi

<embed id="VideoPlayback" src="http://video.google.com/googleplayer.swf?docid=" hl="en&fs=" true="" style="width: 400px; But now it occurs to me the reason for why those experiences are limited and time-bound, is because of the excitment the mind is capable of producing on thinking that one day this will be my permanent state - the so-called state of mukthi, when i'll be free from all cares of daily living and live in bliss all the time. The bliss and energy that comes in this beautiful epiphany is possible only because of the excitment in thinking that they'll be mine forever one fine day. This anticipation produces the necessary space and needed energy in the mind to enjoy the "bliss and beautitude".
The chores and problems of daily living stares back in to the face when I am out of this "state".
It never seems to happen that I can say "This is it", "I have reached the goal", "I am the SELF, there is no more to explore"! I always seem to hunt and try for more experiences.

Aum Tripurae Hrim

<img style="float:left; margin:0 10px 10px 0;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 269px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_h-FuGpiC8T8/SYqL6-Gim-I/AAAAAAAAA5k/prSwEH3jDco/s320/LalitaTripuraSundari.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5299201756773915618" />

Aum Tripurae Hrim

Aim ka e i la hrim
Klim ha sa ka ha la hrim
Saum sa ka la hrim.

Her Divine majesty the transcendental consciousness Sri Tripura's appointed creator Brahma made this world which is but a projection of Her. The appointed preserver of the cosmos 'Vishnu', who protects all sentient beings in the cosmos thus created and the appointed destroyer 'Ishwara' who takes the projected creation back to the source by means of "Anugraha", all carry out their allotted duties all the time abiding in Her self in full consciousness. She is always in union with Sadashiva Kameshwara and is colored red, symbolizing DESIRE - the desire to become many, the desire to create and play.

At the same time, the hearts of all created beings bear the 'hrlekha' which symbolizes the primordial desire of merging back to Her. The 'hrlekha' is a name given to the subtle flash of lightning which represents the aspiration of the created beings to merge back to its source which is the Transcendental Abode Sri Tripura Herself. Worshipping her helps one to remove the darkness surrounding the being, which then enables one’s consciousness to become pure and see the light of truth as clearly as gooseberry in the palm of one's hands.

Constant aspiration towards Her, invariably leads to merging of one's consciousness back to Her, the primordial source of everything, by Her grace.

This, in short, is the summary and essence of the great ancient itihasa "Tripura Rahasya" or "Haritayana Samhita" written and narrated by Haritayanar to the celestial Rishi Narada. The whole itihasa is written as a conversation, or, should it be said, as a great instruction of TRUTH given in the form of stories, by Guru of all Gurus’ "Shri Dattatreya" to His disciple "Parashurama (Bhargava)". The entire event was divined by Brahma the creator who was approached by Narada Rishi - the Immortal devotee of Narayana, in order to receive this wonderful itihasa. Brahma then asked Narada, to wait till a soul named "Haritayanar" to be born on earth, who is destined to bring this itihasa to the world, after hearing it from the Avatar Parashurama Bhargava Himself.

The itihasa starts with "Aum" the primordial sound of creation and ends by declaring "Tripurae Hrim" which means, Tripura is only Hrim. 'Hrim' is the tantric 'Aum' and the word denotes the whole of creation. It states that Her Divine Majesty continuously creates preserves and takes back all the worlds and this happens as Her pastime all the time remaining ever pure by Herself.

Enigma of Silence

The secret of ultimate truth is well kept,
It makes a fool of those who try to utter it.

The yearning to express it is too high still,
Language and speech reaches not close to it.

The seers are thus forced to remain as either
A normal human or a foolish one without care,

For otherwise, they become an enigma of silence,
Immersed in bliss with no-one else to share.

Appreciate the Consciousness

Why are we taught to pray to some higher-power for our wants? What patterns of belief have we accepted, that made us the askers and the "higher-power" the givers.
If someone is taught to pray to the "GOD of His/Her understanding" to grant them what they ask for, and if that wish is granted, then He would continue to ask for more.

Its likely that it would slowly program him in to thinking that "I can go on in my life by having this particular God beside me - to whom I can ask whatever I want". IF things don't go his way and if he sees that his wishes are not fulfilled, he is likely to change or re-frame the God of his understanding either by reasoning out to himself that God is having something better in store for him, or, by worshiping and praying to some other God who is seen to have granted many other people's wishes.

But, when we analyze, it can be easily seen that, a man does all this mainly because he wants to steer clear in life. He wants no obstacles, nothing to shock or shake him from the peaceful living circumstances that he has carved out for himself (At least he thinks so!). By all means, he wishes himself well. And in order to preserve and protect his way of living and understanding - in short - his personality, he begs the Lord.

Now, why does the thought "No matter what, I must continue to remain and my own self-notion of 'who I am' should be preserved with no or little change", arise in us?
In fact, our own notion of who we are influences our true nature so much that we fail to realize the reality of our nature.

This notion that "I Am so-and-so living here, my name is ..., my personality is ...", is something alien to me, and it was picked up by me, only in a few years after the birth has happened. Prior to my birth I was totally unafraid because I know not who I am. No "I" had been formed to whom the fear can occur. Now this temporary state of "I know that I exist" has come over my permanent state of "I know not that I exist". All the experiences in life are centered around the individual called "I".
Only if I (the individual) exists, every other experience is made valid. If "I" is not Known, then everything becomes dead. There is no relevance at all. So the whole world is meaningful only if I am conscious of myself, of having an existence in a body with a name, personality etc etc.
Is it not clear now, that this state of consciousness itself is something external and alien to me? The very "I" with which I identify itself is not Who I really AM. Now, what this "I" could do to the real me, which is never present in consciousness?

"Unknown" is my nature. But my temptation to be in the realm of the known is too high, that I continue to imagine that "I exist" in the world with a form and all strings attached.

This "I" in the world is asked to pray to some "higher power" to grant the wishes. But there is nothing that my real nature has to do in this world. The real I, therefore ends up appreciating whatever happens in the consciousness, as an unending PLAY.

Moods are in the mind and do not matter. Go within, go beyond. Cease being fascinated by the content of your consciousness. When you reach the deep layers of your true being, you will find that the mind's surface-play affects you very little.
-- Sri Nisargadatta Maharaj

Ramana and Arunachala

March 3rd morning we started for Giripradakshinam around the Lord of All Hills, Himself in the form of Hill, named Arunachala.

On the way we visited the Ashram of Sri Ramana Maharishi and Sheshadri Swamigal.
There were Ashta lingams ( 8 main lingams) around the hill and several Nandhis each facing the Lord of the Hill. A small samadhi of Adi-Mudi Siddhar was about half way round the hill.

No doubt, the place IS mystical. Any one can feel it. You just need to go one round, no matter who you are. you'll definitely end up feeling that there is something more to yourself, than what appears.

Borrowing the words from Ramana Maharishi's "Sri Arunachala Aksharamanamalai" 77th verse, which says exactly what I feel:

77.
Mâ/nangon/duru/pavar
Mâ/natai/yazhit/tabhi
Mâ/namil/lâ/dolir
Arunâ/chalâ.

Shine Thou selfless, sapping the pride of those who boast of their free will, Oh Arunachala!

Refer this site for the full Aksharamanamalai.

http://www.ramana-maharshi.org/music/arunsiva.htm

Of course, fool that I am that I venture to tell these things through whichever words the brain could grasp at the moment. I have pasted them below. I have arranged them in proper sequence since the original chat contains a few text received seemingly in an out-of-order fashion (happens when we send a reply message when the other is half-way in between), but understood by the people chatting.

There is a bigger version of this, it happens when he gets heated up and begins to keep asking the same question twice or thrice. Of course, the answer puts a person either in to circles of frustration or total complete relief ... all depending on whether the reader apperceives it or not.

Read on ... :-)

Friend: Interesting , "Dream exists as long as the Dreamer".
But you used to say there is no dreamer in the first place
Then, does the dreamer support the dream??
Or it the other way around??

Me: Dreamer and the dream are the identical
First a dreamer is assumed when there is actually nothing...
and the dream follows it spontaneously without a moment of gap.

Me: There is nobody to even affirm that "there is no dream or dreamer"...
coz everything would be contained in the dream :-)

Friend: "First a dreamer is assumed when there is actually nothing."
WHO ASSUMES IT??

Me: The dreamer can understand everything only in terms of dream objects and
words that he has used in dream.
Since his VERY existence is a dream, beyond the dream, whatever IS,
will always BE (and he does not know it).
It cannot be communicated in dream becoz there is all that can be utilized
to communicate are words and signs, used in dream.

And there is none to even affirm that "there is no dream or dreamer"..
..coz even that happens in a dream.

Friend: Oh, You mean you can't tell me
Coz its outside the dream?

Me: Yes.. in words it cannot be told. It can only be pointed to...but never captured

Friend: mm...another high profile way to say "i dunno"

Me: How can an "I" know about it..The "I" itself is a product of imagination
An imagination cannot capture wats real..no matter how much it tries

Friend: Then the answer must have been "i dunno"
not some verbose bs.
what a paradox!!!

Me: The answer, when asked to an "I", is always DON'T know or CAN'T tell
A pointer is wat is offered here
a pointer is all that can be offered here

Friend: hmm...so an "imagination" imagine that it is an imagination.

Me: A slight modification of ur above statement will make sense..
"An imagination completely understanding that its all imagination"...
that's it...beyond this understanding there is nothing.

Friend: hmmm

A Paper's story -- Part II

[Contd from previous posting]

Now after having created the knowledge, every word and letter of the paper, would want to understand -- "whence" and "what for" have they come from.
Any scribbling that the pen made, would identify itself so strongly with the design and name given to it (since that's the only capital it has), that, for the most part of the time, they would remain thinking themselves to be whatever they appear to be.

Very rarely, do some words/letters/patterns understand that they are nothing but some expression made by the pen on "Me", and that, I am the one who appears AS them, using them to announce to myself about my own existence.

I can come to know about myself only through the words that are created. So every letter or word that are created are simply my instruments created out from me to know my existence. Without these words, I remain as I AM.

Let me tell to the words/letters who strives to find out who they are, that, they are nothing but my expression. In reality, I AM THEM. But once the letters liquidate the knowledge that "they are existing", then what remains will be the TRUE state prior to the pen's writings on me.

Having understood this, each and every word/letter/pattern drawn by the pen can say my story since this is truly their story as well.

"I never invited the pen to come and write on me. I am not stuck as a "word" or "letter" who seeks the reason for their existence. The creation of knowledge, a knower to understand the knowledge, all goes on in my pure non-knowing and non-needing-to-understand state. The state PRIOR to the creation of knowledge, the no-knowingness state, where no entity has even been created to know -- that is my pure uncontaminated TRUE state, AGELESS, CHANGELESS."

Now this very knowledge of "Who I AM" which I created to myself using the words, is not my true state.
Because in my true state, I don't even know about my existence.

TIME IS CREATED THE MOMENT I TRY AND MAKE EFFORTS TO KNOW ABOUT ME. Let me tell about my passtime.

First of all "I am paper".
I make the above announcement using pen (even typewritten letters are supposed to be understood as pen :-), since I choose to use the primitive tool to address them :-))

I am the ultimate purpose for a pen to come in to existence.
But until pen came to write on me, I don't even know who I Am.
Pen came and touched and made use of me.
Because of me, Pen's writings are made possible and visible.
I am of use to the pen, but the pen is of no use to me, except of course (if at all you want to say), to know and announce to myself about my own existence that "I AM Paper".

Using the pen, knowledge about myself was "created" and announced.
Remember well, that this knowledge about my existence is simply a product in the process.

Otherwise, I alone remain as I really AM, without creating knowledge since I AM prior to any kind of knowledge.

But creating knowledge about myself is my pass-time.

Who demands Continuity

I am taking a few teaspoons of honey and doing that oil-pulling. Feel quiet ok.
But I must say, almost the whole of Bangalore is struck with cold and its that time of the year - winter - December. Soooo Chill. People might chose to get married now or find time to stay together with their fiances :-), since physical closeness helps to stay warm.

Ok. Some thinking now....
Ever wondered how sleep works? Or how waking up works? First thing in the morning as soon as you wake up, you get the message that "you are". How did it come so suddenly. If you get lost in the dream, then you won't even know until you wake up, that you are dreaming.
What if something happens and life leaves the body while you were sleeping? Would you be lost in the dream world thinking it to be the real world where you belong?
Very much the same way, we seemed to have accepted our existence in the present life also. Continuity there might be, but when did we exactly get to know that we are?
As a baby, we not even know that "we are". Things seem to happen and we simply witness. But there is no person to witness also, because nothing gets registered in the memory.
When sleeping and waking-up are totally out of our effort, what then can we claim as ours? All the efforts that we make in the world are made only after knowing and ensuring that "we are". Only then, we undertake actions. Otherwise, there wouldn't be an identity that does jobs. Where from did we know that "we are". How and why did it come?

But here is a scientific treatment of the subject taken from howstuffworks. Interesting reading. Check it out.
http://health.howstuffworks.com/sleep.htm

Remedies for Phlegm and mucus

This body is uncomfortable with phlegm and mucus.
So after a bit of Googling, this site was found.

http://www.medindia.net/alternativemedicine/index.asp?Choice=Asthma

Sounds like pretty good stuff. I was lead to a blog site maintained by a person named Floyd Henderson.

It all happened just 10 days ago. Those were the days when I used to see clearly the illusive nature of the world around me including the so-called "myself".
When a person is not conscious that "he is", of what use is the world to him, "puzzles of life" to him, or even the "Gods" to him?
By thinking on these lines, The "I" was apperceived to be a huge "LIE". There was a great feeling of enlightenment when this apperception was firm and clear.
But an imaginary "I" stayed in the background and said "No, I Am still not convinced completely. How come I continue to live the same old life and get thoughts like everyone else? How come I am not happy ever after? "I Am" still concerned about reaching eternity...etc.

So "I Am" was constantly chattering. In short, all thoughts are supported by "I Am". And this is what is termed as the *mind*. It constantly demanded explanations, convictions, reasons. Then not knowing what and how to convince it, a query was posted to Floyd Henderson on his Blog site:
http://advaitavedantameditations.blogspot.com/

And he answered it and the reply can be read on the following site as long as its valid.
http://advaitavedantameditations.blogspot.com/2006/11/illusion-of-peace-of-mind-and_19.html

When someone struggling with the same notion asked further, the reply came forth as follows. I am pasting the gist of it that made the most effect at that moment.

Would you say that you have no mind, that you have control over your mind, or that you ignore your mind?

The reply: If you were driving through Arizona and you noticed on the highway directly in front of you what is called “a mirage,” would you say that you have control over the mirage, that you're going to ignore the mirage and act it is not even being perceived, or that the mirage being perceived is actually not real?

Obviously, a mirage cannot be controlled. It is also obvious that a mirage that seems to be appearing in the road directly ahead of you cannot be ignored. That mirage will not disappear simply because you tell it to disappear; nor will you succeed at pretending that the optical illusion is not there. So it is with “the mind.” Billions of persons on the planet suffer from the incessant mind clutter—that chattering of a thousand monkeys that the “mind” generates and which results in “the aching” you mentioned. If persons could simply choose to ignore the mind, wouldn’t they do that? But it cannot be done. Others want to “control” their thoughts. If it is suggested that you not think about an elephant, an elephant immediately “comes to mind.” To think about getting rid of a thought only guarantees that the thought will remain. Your ego defense mechanisms are all being called to arms in order to convince you to protect the “mind.” Ego’s goal is to sustain all of your illusions (a gathered known as "your mind") because that is the home of all of the ego-states that you are accepting as identities. Your ego is using every trick in the book to encourage you to ignore the pointer being offered that the “mind” must go. Again, why must it go?

......refer the site for full reading....

Now the "I Am" is questioned as soon as it arises.

Q. Who questions?
A. Don't know who. But the questioner is purely imaginary. A mirage.

Lakshanam of a Listener

This wonderful piece found somewhere on the internet is excellent.
Its a commentary on the Bhagawatham.

Who is a true and excellent listener? Know it yourself.

The lakshaNam of a listener is reflected in his
ability to comprehend what is being narrated and ask questions with a
view to furthering his understanding of the narration. In this
respect, Parikshit excels again. Parikshit was attentively listening
to Sri Shuka Brahmam's narration of Prayaschitta Karmas. Parikshit
then made an astute observation that Prayaschitta Karmas can only
serve as expiatory rites for sins already commited. However, it
cannot root out once and for all the vasanas that cause one to engage
in sinful acts. To illustrate this better, it is helpful to consider
an elephant being bathed in the river by a Mahout (its controller).
Bathing the elephant cleanses it of the dirt. However, when the
elephant goes to the river bed, it uses its trunk to sprinkle sand
all over its body. Thus, bathing the elephant does not stop it from
becoming dirty. Therefore, what is the means for preventing one from
engaging in sinful acts?"

Swami continued" Sri Shuka Brahmam was pleased with this observation
of Parikshit and the resulting question. Sri Shuka Brahmam answered
this through the Bhagavatam salutation "Kechith kevalayA BhakthyA
VAsudeva parAyaNA: Agham Dhunvanthi kAthsnyEna nIharamiva Bhaskara:"

Meaning: One can be protected only by Bhakti to the Supreme Lord. In
order to destroy the evil Vasanas that cause one to engage in sinful
acts, it is necessary to have single-minded devotion to the Lotus-
Feet of Lord Vasudeva. One must constantly contemplate on Him. If one
accomplishes this, the sins disappear verily like the winter fog at
the onset of the morning Sun."

Blogging Begins

A very special friend of mine, got me the song "Never forget -- by Take That".
I followed the lyrics and they were great and TIMELESS. Enjoy.

Been on this path of life for so long
Feel I've walked a thousand miles
Sometimes strolled hand in hand with love
Everybody's been there
With danger on my mind I would stay on the line of hope
I knew I could make it
Once I knew the boundaries I looked into the clouds and saw
My face in the moonlight
Just then I realised what a fool I could be
Just cause I look so high I don't have to see me
Finding a paradise wasn't easy but still
There's a road going down the other side of this hill

Never forget where you've come here from
Never pretend that it's all real
Someday soon this will be someone else's dream

Been safe from the arms of disappointment for so long
Feel each day we've come too far
Yet each day seems to make much more
Sure is good to be here
I understand the meaning of "I can't explain this feeling"
Now it feels so unreal
At night I see the hand that reminds me of the stand I make
The fact of reality

Never forget where you've come here from
Never pretend that it's all real
Someday soon this will be someone else's dream

We've come so far and we've reached so high
And we've looked each day and night in the eye
And we're still so young and we hope for more
But remember this
We're not invincible, we're not invincible - No
We're only people, we're only people
Hey we're not invincible, we're not invincible
So again I'll tell you

Never forget where you've come here from
Never pretend that it's all real
Someday soon this will be someone else's dream
